Kate Cowan, Third Age Trust’s Head of Information and Advice, gave an informative presentation about u3a Insurance provision She outlined the main types of insurance cover and detailed the importance of Group Leaders completing Risk Assessments and Incident Report Forms.
A zoom workshop on u3a Insurance Issues is in planning stages and will be announced shortly.
In the afternoon, Russell Whitworth outlined the uses and abuses of AI. He introduced the AI Communities website site.
Russell demonstrated some fun features of AI for us to play with. Russell Whitworth’s presentation was entertaining and motivating. He is willing to visit u3a groups and to explain and explore AI with them. Contact him on russell whitworth@hotmail.com
The day was all the more appreciated and useful because it offered face to face interaction and thus opportunity to establish and/or reinforce personal contacts. During a dedicated networking session delegates shared challenges specific to their u3a group and explored potential solutions. Many thanks go to Ann Edwards and her team from Winchester u3a who provided us with a delicious buffet lunch, as well as tea and coffees.
Suggestions for Committees
- Make sure Group Leaders are aware that they should complete and submit incident report forms to the Trust for any injury or property damage.
- Remind Group Leaders to conduct and document Risk Assessments for their activities to show they have considered the safety of members.
- Consider appointing a committee member for each social event to be aware of the incident protocol.
