About the South East Region

The South East Region is the largest u3a region in the UK covering Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It includes nearly 200 u3as and seven Networks, details of which along with links to their websites can be found on the Members page.
South East Region Networks ('SERN') act as a communication channel between u3as and the Council Representative whose role is to act as a two way conduit between u3as and the Council and Board. This enables effective communication between the Board and u3as and also gives the Council Representative an overview of the whole Region.
Most u3as in the Region belong to their local network which enables them to meet to discuss issues and share best practice, resources and other information and to keep the Council Representatives informed of activities and problems in the region.
Although most Networks are affiliated to the Trust they are not a layer of governance. The history and principles of the Trust are on 'The u3a' page.
For information about your nearest u3a, find and click on the relevant u3a's name in the list on the Members page.
u3as in other parts of the country can be found through the Regional u3a websites page on the Trust's website by finding and clicking on the Region in which it is based and then looking through the list of u3as on the Members page for that Region.
There is also a Trust u3a available online if that would suit you better.
Annual membership fees are usually less than £20 for which you will also receive the quarterly magazine 'u3a matters'.

The South East Region Communications Team and Forum

The Council Representative acts as the link between local u3as, the Council, and the Board, supported by the South East Communications Team, whose members come from across the region. Together, they aim to make the u3a experience enjoyable and stimulating, encouraging everyone to Learn, Laugh, and Live. This helps ensure good communication and allows ideas to be shared across the movement.
Council Representatives are elected by u3as in each of the twelve regions and nations, and it is their responsibility to enable a two way exchange of ideas between the u3as and the Board.
Their names of the Council Representative and Communication Team members and the county in which they are based together with a link to a Message Form to request any help or support that may be needed by networks or u3as are shown on the Contact page.
The South East Forum is responsible for running the annual Summer School in Chichester. Information about this year's programme as well as conferences, seminars on topics of relevance to u3as and workshops for group leaders can be found on the South East u3a Forum.
